(3 hrs.) (Prerequisite: LBA 108.) Study of the history and theory of architecture, furniture, interiors and decorative arts from ancient times through mid-1800's. Emphasis on the major design periods such as Archaeological, Classic Revival, Baroque, Rococo and Neo-Classical in Middle and Western Europe, Britain and the United States. Examination of the significance and application to current design problems. Writing intensive, includes scholarship by and about women and ethnic minorities, plus the history and traditions of the major.
