The study of biochemical and biological processes common to environmental engineering. Introductory physiology, biochemistry and ecology of bacteria, yeasts, fungi. Laboratory work in microbial techniques. Development of reaction rate and mass balances on biological reactors for pollution control. Topics covered include biogeochemical cycling, thermodynamics of biodegradative processes, activated sludge, trickling filters, stabilization ponds, sludge treatment and digestion, bioremediation, hazardous waste treatment, biological metal cycling and biological solid waste treatment processes. Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: ENVE 4320. When Offered: Fall term annually. Credit Hours: 4
