A course on fundamentals of stochastic processes and queuing theory emphasizing applications. Poisson processes, renewal processes, Markov chains, general methods in the study of Markovian and non-Markovian systems, tandem queues, networks of queues, priority and bulk queues, computational methods and simulation. Focus of the course is the application of these tools in the performance evaluation and design of computer systems, communication networks, manufacturing systems, and service systems. Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: ECSE 4500 or DSES 4750 (MATP 4600), or equivalent. When Offered: Spring term annually. Cross Listed: Cross-listed as ECSE 6820.
