This seminar is an investigation of the "successes" and "failures" of the news media, set within historical and contemporary contexts. The title "media watch" is intended to evoke a "watch-dog" approach found in "independent media" sources and organizations like "human rights watch." Assignments involve analyzing how issues are portrayed in the media and students choose their topics according to their interests.
