This course has theory, seminar and clinical components that provide a bridge to baccalaureate nursing education for experienced registered nurses. You are introduced to the theoretical basis of baccalaureate nursing practice. Using the patterns of knowing in nursing, you will explore family theory, wellness, therapeutic relationships, and concepts in teaching, learning, and health promotion. Theory-based practice, critical and reflective thinking, ethics, research, leadership, therapeutic communication, holism, cultural diversity, professional nursing roles and caring are emphasized. Theory and seminar course components are designed to enable you to understand (a) human experience as a focus of nursing, (b) a philosophy of nursing oriented to holism and wellness and (c) concepts and processes pivotal to professional nursing practice. Clinical course components focus on developing interpersonal relationship skills and providing nursing care to families. The importance of self-awareness and caring are integrated throughout all learning experiences. Prerequisite: Acceptance to R.N. to baccalaureate (WEC) section of the nursing major.
