NURS 1260 is the first course in an accelerated program for Licensed Practical Nurses who have been granted advanced placement in nursing. The course begins with discussion and definition of health and the factors that influence health in persons. A conceptual model for nursing, Modeling and Role-Modeling, is introduced along with the basic theories that support the model. The course introduces you to the history, definitions, roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse. Critical-thinking and problem-solving methods for nurses are introduced. Building on previously learned knowledge and skills, you use a holistic assessment tool to learn systematic data collection with healthy patients across the lifespan. Prerequisites: FNDN 0600 or math competency; BIOL 2400; and, as applicable, completion of Minnesota Board of Nursing Abilities. Prerequisite with concurrency: BIOL 2410.
