This course charts the loss of romanticism, the emergence of the Lost Generation, and the creation of modernism and postmodernism in twentieth- and twenty-first-century American literature. This literature reflects the impact of technology, world war, social change movements and prosperity on individuals and communities, on cultural values and on the American Dream.
