The course begins with the art of the French Revolution and continues with the discussion of Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. It considers works of individual artists who shaped the character of 19th century art and discusses problems of the social context of art: its historical circumstances, patronage and audience. Offered every three years.
