Introduction to visual and material cultures of China, including architecture, food, fashion, printing, painting, and the theatre. Using these as building blocks, new terms of analyzing Chinese history are explored, posing such key questions as the meaning of being Chinese and the meaning of being modern. - D. Ko Prerequisites: An introductory Asian history course preferred but not required. General Education Requirement: Historical Studies (HIS).
