Central in the myriad environmental challenges modern civilization faces is the maintenance of life-support functions provided by biological diversity or biodiversity. The course considers biodiversity; origins, patterns of change, importance, and current status, especially in the United States. In addition to developing this knowledge base, student term projects will consider and establish the influence of various human mediated activities and processes on biodiversity and the life-support functions it provides.
