Comprehensive examination of cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM), as well as analysis of the structure and function of the ECM in a variety of tissues. Topics to be covered include: EMC proteins, cell-matrix interactions, ECM signaling, mechanics of the ECM, ECM pathology and recent advances in ECM research. There are no formal prerequisites, but students should have a rudimentary knowledge of cell biology and protein structure (readings to provide this can be requested from the instructor).
