The seminar will analyze twentieth century pioneers of reinforced concrete as well as their contemporaries in art and sculpture. The analysis will consist of a general survey of the work of a particular architect, engineer, or artist, followed by an in depth formal analysis of one of their projects. A new project will then be developed in order to speculate on the contemporary implications of these principles in conjunction with new instruments of computation. When Offered: Spring term annually.
