Course Description: This course will delve into the social construction of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, GBLT identities with a diverse array of sources. Ranging from Gloria Anzaldua's "Borderlands/La Frontera" to the works of Michael Foucault and Robert Stoller, this course encapsulates the experiences that are insular to GBLT people but also differences among groups within this community. Of particular interest is how gay identity is created by language and the use of certain symbols to deconstruct what formerly appears to be fixed, a prioratic categories for understanding gender.
