Course Description: This course will enable you to construct a New York State standards-based language arts program for the elementary grades using quality children's literature. You will investigate research-based strategies for teaching the language arts, and the approaches used by childhood teachers to select and incorporate children's literature in the curriculum. Differentiating instruction, based on level of literacy and English language acquisition, is covered in this course, as well as ways to use technology to enhance the language arts. This course is required of all Childhood Education majors.
