Examination of the principles that generate successful spaces at several scales, from pocket parks and public squares to ceremonial sites and ideal cities. Analysis of the cultural meanings embedded in urban space. Regions covered include Western Europe and Russia, the Americas, and Asia. Chronological scope ranges from ancient to contemporary.
