Semester Hours: 3 Periodically Examination of the French presence in North America, with specific focus on the culture and literature of Quebec. The cultural and social struggle to maintain both a French and a North American identity as seen through the analysis of Québécois texts leads to a better understanding of the current political and cultural plight that faces Quebec citizens as they ponder the pros and cons of sovereignty and unity within Canada. American students come to a more discriminating sense of their own identity as North Americans. All works are read and discussed in English.Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Sophomore standing or above.
