This is a course in "unconventional" politics around the globe. In recent years, movements have become an inexorable part of the current political system. What are movements How and why do they come about What are their aims and purposes How have movements changed over the past century Why and when do movements become revolutions Topics include the Russian Revolution, the lure of communism, the civil rights movement in the U.S., the struggle against communism in Eastern Europe, transnational social movements, and the "alternative globalization" movement.
