This course will focus on the purpose and functions of the Federal Reserve System (FRS) from a policy perspective, concentrating on the following questions: what are the responsibilities of the FRS; how does the FRS work and who is impacted by their actions, how and why; who gave this independent government agency this incredible power, and should its power be reduced; has the FRS overstepped its constitutional boundaries; and has its present position as the regulator of the financial markets in the US been the cause or effect of the complete restructuring of the US economy Prerequisite Econ 300 or permission of the instructor.
