In-depth investigation of the major concepts, algorithms, and implementation principles of computer operating systems. Both theoretical and practical aspects of operating systems are considered; students undertake substantial programming projects to illustrate concepts. Topics include scheduling; resource and storage allocation; problems of resolving deadlock, exclusion, and synchronization; memory allocation; secondary storage implementation; and distributed system structures.
