This course provides an inter-disciplinary introduction to the people, land and culture of South Africa. It is a requirement for students planning to go on the South Africa program. It is taught from an African-centered and feminist perspective inclusive of the variety and diversity of peoples and cultures. It includes the historical, socio-political, literary and cultural aspects. The cultural component includes music and the arts. Issues of health and safety are central to the course.
