Macdonald This course provides students with both an historical overview of modern U.S. foreign policy (since Pearl Harbor) and a review of current thinking on issues of the day since 9/11 and how they are shaped and driven by traditional American political culture, such as globalization, the "long war" on terror, policies toward the Third World, relations with traditional allies following the Cold War, civil-military relations, and competing ideologies. The analytical emphasis is on elite decision making and security issues. Prerequisite : POSC 232 . Students wishing to learn more about the domestic processes of American foreign policy should tak e POS C 360, Domestic Sources of American Foreign Policy.
