L. Klugherz A study of music as a cultural phenomenon. Using as a context the diverse societies of Latin America and the cultures that have influenced them, the course examines how music relates to many aspects of life, identifies social classes, embodies political issues, shapes ceremonial practices, and creates cultural identity. Students attend extra musical events during the term and complete listening assignments in the music library. First-year students and sophomores only.
