Staff This course uses the stories of individuals caught between worlds to tell the history of early America from European arrival until American independence. Focusing on groups such as Native American interpreters, missionaries, African slaves, fur traders, and Jewish merchants the course examines American history through the eyes of those individuals who did not fit neatly into the categories of "Native American," "European," or "African American." Illuminating these narratives forces students to reconceptualize traditional accounts of early America.
