A. Cooper Selected topics in the history of the European Middle Ages, with readings in great historiographical debates as well as intensive study of primary sources. Possible topics include the culture of Late Antiquity, monasticism, fear and hatred in the Middle Ages, the crusades, popular religiosity, economic development and transformation, intellectual trends, and the origins of law and government. Prerequisite: HIST 202 or 232, or permission of instructor. Normally offered in the fall.
