Hodges This course covers the age of the American Revolution, beginning with the Stamp Act Riots in 1765 and ending with the election of Andrew Jackson in 1828, and the success of white male suffrage. Topics include the pre-Revolutionary debates and turmoil, the war itself, popular post-war government, and the construction of the Constitution. From there the course surveys the first presidential elections, the building of a federal government, and the expansion of the United States to the Mississippi River. The course will include debates over slavery, suffrage, Native Americans, and diplomatic history.
