J. Oliver This course traces art from the prehistoric period to the Early Renaissance in Europe and the Middle East with emphasis on both style and cultural context. The arts of ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Islam, and the Middle Ages are included. The student is introduced to basic critical and art-historical methods. Open to first-year students and sophomores, or by permission of instructor.
