Basic theory of instrument design and operational parameter optimization of chemical instrumentation. Application to optical methods of analysis involving molecular and atomic refraction, polarization, scattering, emission, absorption, fluorescence, and phosphorescence in the ultraviolet and visible regions of the spectrum.
