Introduction to the fundamental chemistry of carbon compounds, including nomenclature, properties and reactions of hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines, and carbohydrates, with an emphasis on their relationship to living systems. Three class periods per week. Concurrent registration in or credit in CHEM 102L is required. Prerequisite: CHEM 101 with a minimum grade of C.
