Techniques of modern experimental biochemistry including: extraction and characterization of DNA from bacterial cells micro- and semi-preparative-scale isolation and purification of plasmids; action of restriction enzymes on nucleic acids; binding of polyamines to DNA, followed by ethidium fluorescence assay; and isolation of rRNA and mRNA. Prerequisite: CHEM 493 (or concurrent registration), CHEM 492L, CHEM 224 with a minimum grade of C.
