Particular attention will be paid to the rise of urban civilizations in Asia; development and interaction of the religions and cultures in those civilizations; the rise of economic systems linking different parts of Asia; the influence of contact with non-Asian regions and peoples on the history of Asia; and modern efforts of Asians to adapt their societies to European ideas regarding politics and economics.
