This course examines the social and political factors of the third century B.C.E. that gave rise to the Septuagint. The critical role this translation had for Hellenistic Jews of the Diaspora and the birth and expansion of the early church will also be studied. Selected portions of the text will be translated, compared to the original Hebrew and related to the New Testament where applicable. Credit Hours: 3
