Introduction to microprocessors and microcontrollers. RISC microcontroller instruction set architecture and assembly language programming. Timers and interrupt handling. Parallel input/output device interfacing. Serial communications using UART, Inter-IC ( I2C) bus, and synchronous serial interface. I/O port expansion. Analog-to-digital converter interface. A PIC18F452 8-bit RISC microcontroller-based embedded system consisting of keypad and LCD display is implemented through a series of laboratory assignments. (Prerequisite: EE 231.)
