Examines and applies the major concepts, theories, and research related to the nature and acquisition of language as a system. This includes a focus on the components of a language system, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, semiotics, discourse varieties, aspects of social and academic language, rhetorical registers, and writing conventions.
