An introduction to a critical approach to examining the social construction of sex and gender. Topics include analysis of sex/gender systems, perspectives on gender inequality and the role of social institutions such as family, economy, media, etc. in shaping multiple experiences of gender and the characteristics of gender relations in society. (1) Lecture: 3 hrs/wk. Prerequisite: Sociology 101 or permission of the instructor.
