An introduction to oral and written literatures of the African Diaspora. Places some of the world's important black writers (DuBois, Hurston, Cesaire, Walcott, Morrison, etc.) in historical and cultural context, with an emphasis on patterns and genres shared across national and linguistic boundaries. (1) Lecture: 3 hrs/wk. Prerequisites: English 240 or 250, and one other 200-level ENGL literature course.
