An historical study of early Christianity from its beginnings as an obscure apocalyptic sect within Judaism (first century C.E.) to its legitimation as the religion of the Roman Empire (forth-fifth century C.E.). This course explores central aspects of the Church's social and political development in the Greco-Roman world, as well as the historical development of Christian doctrines. Prerequisites: A 100-level Religious Studies course and at least sophomore standing. Credits: 3 cr. Liberal Studies Requirement: Religious Studies
