An introduction to macroeconomic theory and public policy. The course begins with a discussion of fundamental economic concepts and is followed by a brief overview of the role of markets. The factors that determine the level of gross domestic product (GDP), employment, price levels, money, and interest rates follow. Current economic problems and policy debates are emphasized. Economic controversies surrounding the role of international trade, monetary and fiscal policy, the deficit, economic growth, and productivity are highlighted. Credits: 3 cr.
