The major focus of this course will be to consider the Roman Empire from the time of the settlement of Augustus in the first century B.C. to the fall of the Western half of the Empire by the fifth century A.D. Emphasis will be given to analyzing the reasons for Rome's successes, the eventual causes of decline and the role of Christianity in Roman history. Credits: 4 cr.
