Introduction to visual culture in the United States from Plymouth plantation through post-modernism, including study of painting, sculpture, architecture, quilting, functional objects and landscape design. Special emphasis is given to issues of national identity, race, class, and gender. Course requirements emphasize formal analysis, research, writing, discussion, and oral presentation. This course satisfies the writing-intensive requirement for art majors. Credits: 4 cr.
