3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: SPE 1010, and satisfaction of all Level I and Level II General Studies course requirements, and Senior standing; or Permission of instructor This course acquaints students with the classical traditions of rhetorical theory including the presophists, sophists, Aristotle, Plato, Isocrates, Cicero, Quintilian, etc. Standards of "ethical persuasion" and the responsibilities of rhetorical persuasion are examined in-depth.
