3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: PSY 1001, six additional semester hours in psychology, and ENG 1020 Students examine and evaluate the major theories of abnormal behavior: biological, behavioral, psychodynamic, cognitive, and humanistic. The course provides a description of the behavior patterns defined as abnormal and examines classification systems and assessment procedures. Students will examine causal models of abnormal behavior from an integrated systems approach. Biological, psychological, and social treatments of psychological disorders are also discussed and evaluated. Classification, etiology, and treatment will be examined using case studies.
