5 (3 + 64) Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURA courses, labs, and clinicals in accordance with the curriculum sequence earning a "C" or betterThis course focuses on the management and provision of nursing care for childbearing women and their families. Students examine the multiple bio-, psycho-, socio-cultural factors important in determining nursing interventions and in setting priorities. In the laboratory experience for the course, students learn procedures for implementation of a variety of skills needed for the care of the childbearing woman and newborn including specimen collection for diagnostic procedures. In the clinical setting, students apply skills and knowledge learned in the classroom and lab to direct nursing care that is provided during the childbearing process under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
