3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURA courses, labs, and clinicals in accordance with the curriculum sequence earning a "C" or betterThis course prepares the student of professional nursing for ethical decision making in clinical practice. This course introduces the student to biomedical ethical theories and principles as well as ethical decision-making models applied to professional nursing. Students apply critical-thinking concepts to applicable codes of ethics, ethical theories, principles, and rules in discussing ethical dilemmas encountered in professional practice. Ethical decision-making models are applied to clinical dilemmas encountered in patients at the beginning, middle, and end of life. Personal, professional, cultural, and spiritual values are examined in the context of ethical dilemmas and their resolution in healthcare.
