3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: MUS 2110 and MUS 2120 This course involves study of modal vocal polyphony (Lassus, Palestrina) of the sixteenth century, and tonal contrapuntal textures of the 18th century (J.S. Bach) and contrapuntal techniques of the 20th century (Hindemith). Students will compose in two to four independent voices. All contrapuntal techniques are studied in historical perspective, including analysis of polyphonic forms.
