1 (1 + 0) Prerequisite: MTH 3100 or MTH 3420 or Permission of instructor This is a seminar in mathematical problem solving. Students will investigate factors of problem solving, such as belief systems, control mechanisms, heuristics, and mathematical resources. This investigation will be carried out in the context of working on a collection of problems designed to illustrate these factors. Problems from the William Lowell Putnam National Mathematics Examination are included in this collection.
