3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: HIS 1020 or HIS 1040; or permission of instructor In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the English witnessed a break with the Roman Catholic Church, the execution of a king, the exploration of the Americas, as well as tumultuous change in the realms of science, economics, and culture. This course analyzes how and why such changes occurred and their effects on the English polity and society.
