3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: HCM 3010 and ECO 2020 This course examines the major economic issues facing the health care industry. Emphasis is on the major elements of economic theory from a microeconomic perspective and how these theories are applied in the health care sector. Policies that enhance access to care and contain medical costs are explored. Other key issues include: analysis of medical care markets; demand for health, health care, and health insurance; supply of health care professionals; and the effects of societal and technological changes on the provision of health care services.
