3 (3 + 0) This course provides an overview of dynamic, contemporary linguistic insights into grammars, language acquisition, social dialects, sound and meaning systems, and systematic bases for language change. It is also an examination of myths and illusions about human and animal languages. It is primarily for majors in humanities and social sciences, but especially appealing to science majors because of the examination of the regular systems underlying natural languages.
