3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: CJC 1010, CJC 1450 This course will examine the origins, philosophies, and goals of adult and juvenile institutions within the American correctional system. It includes the study and analysis of punishment, including theories, practices, system analysis, treatment of offenders and proposed solutions. This course will examine the various types of correctional institutions, their mission, physical structure, management, care and treatment of offenders, discipline and the development and recognition of the substantive and procedural rights of those confined.
