3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: CJC 1010 This course provides an introductory examination of law enforcement in the United States, including its historical foundations and emerging issues. The relationship between law enforcement and the community serves as the context within which the challenge of responding to society's multiple and changing public safety needs are addressed. Law enforcement agencies, their administrative practices, and the behaviors of those involved in the delivery of police services are examined from the perspective of democratic values, racial and ethnic diversity, and societal perceptions of police effectiveness.
